Jana D. Brader
October 4, 1951 - March 13, 2011
Jan Brader, the daughter of Kenneth and VerDene (Anderson) Bramer was born on October 4, 1951 in Atlantic, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Audubon County where she attended school and graduated from Audubon High School. During her childhood, Jan enjoyed living on the family farm and helping with dairy cows.

After graduation, Jan worked for the Audubon Newspaper in the photography room and helped in the proofreading department. Jan was married for a short time prior to being united in marriage to Tom Brader on September 4, 1976, in Audubon, IA. The family moved to Cherokee in 1978, where opened “Nana’s Daycare” in her home and lovingly became known as “Nana” to the children she provided care for.

Jan enjoyed teaching Sunday school and helping with little league with her husband. More recently she spent her time crocheting, reading, and watching NASCAR. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

On March 13, 2011, Jan passed away unexpectedly at her home at the age of 59. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Bramer; two infant sisters, Marlene and Marlis Bramer; one sister, Lori Bertram; one nephew, Kevin Anderson; and grandparents, Hans and Clara Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Brader of Cherokee, IA; four children: Aaron Brader and his son, Jason of Cherokee, IA, Bryna (Chris) Mann and their children, Darian and Bradee of Cherokee, IA, Crystal (Kyle) Samsel and their children, Ashlynn and Colton of Cherokee, IA, and Mary (Adam) Phipps of Lincoln, NE; mother, VerDene Bramer of Perry, IA; mother-in-law, Pauline Brader of Audubon, IA; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Tom and family, there are no words to express my sadness of Jan's death. And I know it is minimal compared to yours. She will be in my heart forever, as she has been for 40 plus years. I have many memories of all of you. Fun, good memories. I can hear her laugh as if she were standing beside me. This woman had many names of endearment - wife, mom, grandma, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, coach and my favorite, friend. Because that's what she always was to me. I will treasure our long friendship for the rest of my days. She can say hi to Scott for me. My prayers are with you and God's blessings also.
