March 10, 1930 - May 6, 2015
Marilyn Jean Leinbaugh, the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Strother) Davis was born March 10, 1930, at Sac City, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Sac City where she attended school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1948. Marilyn received her college education at Buena Vista University where she earned a B.A. in education.

After her schooling, Marilyn taught in Newell for several years before moving to Cherokee in 1965 to continue her teaching career. Marilyn loved being a teacher and the friendships she made along the way. After a career that spanned over 40 years, Marilyn retired in 1991.

On July 26, 1974, Marilyn was united in marriage to Jack Leinbaugh in Cherokee. Following their marriage they resided in Cherokee and spent many happy winters together in Mesa, AZ.

Marilyn was an active member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing her flute, exercising, watching football, and reading. She was also active in numerous womenís organizations over the years including A.A.U.W., P.E.O., and Tri T. Most of all she cherished the times she shared with family and friends.

On May 6, 2015, Marilyn passed away unexpectedly at her home at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Leinbaugh in 2011; her parents, Fred and Margaret Davis; one brother, James Davis; one sister, Judy Rehms; and one son, Scott Carlson.

She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Steve (Carol) Carlson of Needham, MA, Diane (Gary) Chu of Racine, WI, Jane (Jeff) Peters of Yuma, AZ, James (Patty) Leinbaugh of Spirit Lake, IA, Julie (Bob) Eickey of Bradgate, IA, Jeanie Leinbaugh of Phoenix, AZ, Janel (Mark) Boever of Worthington, MN, and John (Susan) Leinbaugh of Plano, TX; three grandchildren: Katherine, Kristina, and Brianna; many step-grandchildren; and her circle of friends.

Our belated sympathy sent to your family. I taught with Marilyn and the Roosevelt School building. She did love teaching and golf. I hope God will be with you at this difficult time.

I first met Marilyn when I joined the McDonald's coffee group after I retired in 2010 and started spending my summers in Cherokee. Marilyn and I also attended the library book group at one time. I haven't made the trip up from Texas yet, but I was thinking of all Marilyn's family and friends saying their final goodbye today. I will miss my friend.

Heaven just gained my FAVORITE teacher of ALL times. Mrs. Leinbaugh was my reading teacher, and I recall how gentle and caring of a teacher she was. She was one who inspired me to go into teaching, and become a reading teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

My deepest sympathies go out to your family. Marylin was a good friend and great encouragement during my ministry in Cherokee. May the grace that has brought her to glory be the same grace that brings you comfort and peace in the midst of your sorrow.
