I can't even begin to tell you how special this lady is to me. She trained me in CCU almost 20 years ago, and am so fortunate to have learned from the best. She was hard on me, and I loved her for that. She had such a wonderful way with people, and took such good care of her patients.
I will never forget her 'retirement' party, even though she worked several more years after that. She was my mentor, my friend, and helped me through some very difficult times in my life. My heartfelt sympathies for your loss. She was a treasure.

Dear Family of Mary Lu,
Here in Oklahoma, we are just hearing of the passing of dear Mary Lu. Of all the dear ones in her family, to the young granddaughter pursuing nursing I would direct these condolences. You were the apple of your grandmother's eye. She was so proud of you and so dearly fond of you that we who are Oklahomans heard of you from her. Especially in conversations grandmother to grandmother she enjoyed sharing her delights in you. With my late mother, Halcyon Heline Botkin, she shared frequently, even long distance. Mary Lu helped look after in their own home in rural Marcus Halcyon's folks, my grandparents, and insisted that 30 years later, she Halcyon get to the hospital pronto back in 2005 when she was trying to maintain independence there and nearly lost her battle to septicemia on the spot. Were it not for Mary Lu, we might not have had an additional nine years of life with Halcyon, my mother, joining us in our home in Tulsa.
So we celebrate the life of your dear Mary Lu: wife, mother, grandmother and multi generational nurse and caregiving consultant. May the love she lavished on so many surround you all now as you gather close her memories to inspire and reinvigorate your own callings in love and service to each other and to your respective communities.
With our deepest condolences and continuing appreciation,
The John and Halcyon Heline Botkin Family

Emmet, Jeff, Scott, Pat and family,
What a truly lovely lady Mary Lu was! I have had the pleasure of getting to know her over the years and always enjoyed her coming into the office announcing herself as my favorite patient and actually she was one of my favorites. Always happy smiling and a dear heart. I just heard last night of her passing as I was gone moving my daughter to college so I wasn't able to get to the funeral home or the funeral as I would have liked to. I know how difficlut it is to lose one's mother and the hole in your heart that leaves. The glue that holds the family together and of course your biggest fan. God bless and take care of your father 64 years is quite an accomplishment and Mary Lu was so very proud of her family and she truly was a beautiful light everytime I saw her.
