Kitty M. Kohn
June 23, 1928 - January 15, 2016
Kathleen 'Kitty' Mathilda Kohn, the daughter of Albert and Regina (Wilberding) Rupp was born June 23, 1928, in Cherokee, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Rock Township and the Maryhill Parish, her childhood years were spent on the family farm. She attended school at Maryhill for eight years and then attended Quimby High School and graduated in 1947.

On June 23, 1949, Kitty was united in marriage to Lorne B. Kohn at Maryhill Catholic Church. Following their marriage they farmed their entire life in Rock Township. Kitty worked as a homemaker assisting on the farm and helping raise their four children.

Kitty was an active member of Maryhill Catholic Church, the Holy Tearers, and the Quimby Red Hat Society. She loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs over the years. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, bowling, and baking. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities and sporting events.

On January 15, 2016, Kitty passed away at her farm at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband Lorne B. Kohn on February 1, 1995; her parents, Albert and Regina Rupp; one grandson, Joseph Laurence Cronin, Jr.; five brothers: Ralph Rupp, Richard Rupp, Francis Rupp, Thomas Rupp, and Kenneth Rupp; and one sister, Betty Mount.

She will lovingly be remembered by her four children: James (Bonnie) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Jeanne (Bob) Bohnenkamp of Le Mars, IA, Patricia (Terry) Taggart of Hinton, IA, and Peggy (Joe) Cronin of Holstein, IA; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings: Dorothy Schnoes of Marcus, IA, Delbert (Marge) Rupp of Long Beach, CA, Wayne (Ethel) Rupp of Cherokee, IA, and Jack (Ruby) Rupp of Ida Grove, IA; two sisters-in-law, Frances Ann Rupp of Cherokee, IA, and Eleanor Rupp of Portland, OR; she is also survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

My sympathy to all of you and your families. It is hard to lose a loved one. I remember Aunt Kitty always had a smile on her face and was interested in what was going on in my life. I have 2 of hers which I used over the years--peanut brittle and chocolate ice cream roll. I plan to make the ice cream roll this weekend in her memory. I will be thinking of you this morning.

Our hearts are heavy and thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Kitty was such a great family friend for 68 of those years. 40 + years of 500 Club, trading baby sitting, sharing her wonderful food and always fun. She'll be missed by many and including our family...

Our deepest sympathies to your family in the loss of a very special lady. When I married Gerard both Aunt Kitty and Aunt Martha welcomed me into the "extended Kohn family" making me feel like one of the gang. Kitty wanted to make the punch for our wedding reception - which was delicious and was such a special gesture. She brought over many a Christmas goodie tray and always thought of others-never forgetting my birthday which was the day after hers. I met her on the road walking one cold and windy day and I pulled over and we talked. I told her I admired how she fought old age and that I hoped when I got into my golden years that I could be like her. Her reply was, "Well I have a lot of grandkids and great grandkids that need me-I hate to miss their events you know" She was a wonderful lady and our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

I join all, now touched as I, by Kitty's death with Sorrow and prayerful Remembrance. When 'touched' by Kitty you soon knew that she was real, genuine - inflexible - and very much alive through her Faith and Values. [..Such presents a pretty good appearance at St. Peter's Gate!]
Her rural life values, traditions and Catholic Faith gave her the courage to stand firm and to readily confront any threat to either. Still, she was always searching, clarifying, doubting in her search for a Peace that was sought and hoped for -- and that she has now certainly and assuredly received.
Regular in attendance at Wednesday week-day masses at Maryhill now since the parish closed, her Faith-full practice/attendance has been continuous with Kitty likely to be the first to arrive for that Mass. She grew new friendships during this weekly Sacred event and became endeared to all in attendance.
-- We shall not forget her during this special time of prayer for our Beloved Ones + -- .

So sad to hear the news of Miss Kitty's passing. She was such a vivacious, spirited person and truly knew how to have a good time. Her love and pride for her family was very obvious to others. Miss Kitty was a remarkable lady, and we will all miss her very much. My love and prayers to all the family during this difficult time.
