Kevin Woltman
December 17, 1949 - January 17, 2016
Kevin Wayne Woltman, the son of Frances 'Elaine' (Bowen) and Wayne Woltman, was born in Cherokee, Iowa on December 17, 1949. He received his early education at the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Cherokee, graduating in 1968. Kevin was very proud of his Alma Mater. He excelled at both tennis and golf. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College for one year.

Kevin began working at the Wilson/Tyson meat packing plant in Cherokee, and his career continued there for the next 41 years. He made a number of great friends during his time at Tyson's, and kept in touch with many of them through Facebook following his retirement. He was an avid sports fan, and compiled countless records of sports trivia and statistics. Always with a Pepsi in his hand, Kevin enjoyed playing cards and watching his big screen TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his step-mother, Eulalia (Miller) Woltman.

Survivors include two brothers, Kyle Woltman of Cherokee, and Kirk (Krista) Woltman of Marion, Iowa; his niece Sophia and nephews Mitchell, Miles and McIntire; aunts and uncles: Joyce (Phipps) and Virg Pyle of Cherokee, Gary Woltman of Okoboji, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

I am Julie Bowen Fugate and am Kevin's first cousin. My heart breaks with his loss. He and the Bowen family share our childhoods over holidays and Summer's on Walnut St in Cherokee. It is hard to express the love and joy we experienced just by being together. No TV , video games, or computers-- just pure fun. We Bowens miss those times as we will miss Kevy. My thoughts are with those who also loved him. God love you, sweet Kevin, and know you are missed.

I am David Hinkley, one of Kevin's cousins. I live in California so I can't be present, but I want to express my sadness and condolences to all who loved him. Although I haven't seen Kevin in many years, I think of him often, especially on December 17, his birthday, because he's always been so dear to me. What I read in the wonderful Ann Loughlin's (we remember you and all the Loughlins -- the best of neighbors) note to cousin Susan matches beautifully all my memories of Kevin -- fun, funny, kind and loyal. He called his mother 'My Franny' and was devoted to her, to our Grandma Bowen, to the town of Cherokee and its people. Cherokee, where I was born, is home to all our family, and it was Kevin who kept faith with that, who kept the Bowen light burning in the window. I can't imagine that he ever knew how much he was loved. Wish I'd told him. We were very close and I will always miss him and think of him with inexpressible fondness. Blessings to everyone who ever brought him one of his sweet crooked smiles that steals your heart. Goodbye, Kevin. Give our love to your (and our)Franny, Grandma and Grandpa, cousins Cathy and Philip, and all the Bowens and Sheas playing bridge now up in 'Cherokee North.'

Kirk, you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers especially during these very difficult times. Losing a sibling reminds us that life is indeed even more precious; treasure the good times and the challenges that most siblings give us. Kevin must have been a good man if he was anything like you. It is through our faith that we continue to see the Light of Christ shining within our own hearts and that you will feel the flame of eternal love that your brother most likely tried to give others despite his weakened body. He now rests in the arms of Our Lord and we, too, need to reach out and feel the Heavenly Father's graces as He walks with us in our earthly sufferings and sorrow. He hears your sorrow but will be holding you closer than you ever knew He could. Peace and Prayers.

Kevin was a very good friend throughout elementary and high school. He was a real math whiz as he could add several 10 digit numbers from left to right (not right to left, like the rest of us) and he could do it almost instantly. I will keep Kevin and his family in my prayers. Rest in Peace, Kevin.
