Hello Martha,
My mother called me to inform me of your Mother's passing earlier this week.
Even though I have note seen your Mother in the recent years, I always remember her and your Dad during the years I lived next door them, across the alley on 3rd Street. They were such a joy to have as neighbors and as friends to me. I remember a evening before a holiday when your Mother asked me to assist your Dad in bringing something down from the attic of the house as they prepared to have family in for a holiday dinner. They were very grateful that I was available and willing to assist your Dad with the task. This is just one of many memories I have from the few years that I your parents neighbor to the south.
They were wonderful people and each time I go pass the house, the memories of the good time come back to me. I know your Dad has been gone for a few years and with your Mother's passing, I send my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Dear Martha,
My brother Jim nailed it. Your mom was larger than life! I have so many wonderful stories and memories. One of my favorite was when she decided that I should tour SMU. I had a grand time seeing your sorority, the homecoming football game, and enjoying a Sunday brunch. Gordon drove us all over, and this was when electric car locks were new. Every time we drove through a section of town that Joan did not feel was safe, the car locks were clicked on with directions for Gordon to keep driving.
Joan was so kind to me. Another favorite memory was my wedding reception dinner. It was at their home. She saw to every detail including place cards with a Cherokee Daily Times announcement of the festivities. The meal was extraordinary. I just remember her smile that night as she was in her element.
May God’s light perpetual shine upon this lovely lady.

Martha,
Last night after mom told me about Joan's passing. I was very said to hear, but then started to remember all the good times that we all had together. I told the story to a friend about what the Christmas diners were like, and how Joan was bigger than life. Joan knew how to make the most out of life. She was a great and wonderful lady and will be truly missed by many.
Love,
Jim
