Joseph "Joe" Karl Beals, the son of Joseph and Buertess (Worman) Beals was born May 27, 1938, in Rock Island, IL. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High in 1956. After graduation Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country for 9 years in Greenland, Germany, and Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the United States.

In 1965, Joe moved back to Cherokee, IA where he worked at Coast-to-Coast for five years. On April 24, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sandra McCabe at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Following their marriage, Joe worked with his family at Beals Motor Rewind until his retirement. Joe later went on to co-own Golf Etc. in Cherokee.

Joe had a passion for volunteer work. He enjoyed his many years that he served on the Red Cross Board. He also was involved with Kiwanis where he served as Lt. Governor, the Cherokee flood committee, and he also served as a volunteer police reserve and EMT. Joe enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and working on various projects. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

On March 4, 2017, Joe passed away at his residence following a lengthy illness at the age 78. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Beals, and two infant siblings, Sandy and Linda.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Sandi Beals of Cherokee, IA; three children: Linda (Jeff) Ducommun of Larrabee, IA, Karla (Brandon) Frehse of Everly, IA, and Joseph W. Dear family...
With you I am shocked by the turn of events in your beloved's health - and demise. Now we move from the 'temporal' experiences of life to the hopes for and promises of Life's extension into Eternity. What a divine gift to all who find His Life and Merciful Gifts... such we humbly petition now for our Beloved Karl/Joe Beals.
