Maredith 'Chris' Newell
June 14, 1942 - March 9, 2010
Maredith “Chris” Newell, the daughter of Henry and Marion (Ludwig) Christie was born June 14, 1942, in Battle Creek, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Battle Creek where she attended School and graduated from Battle Creek High School.

After graduation, Chris attended college in Indiana. Following her schooling, she moved back to the Cherokee area, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Fredrickson Grain in Meriden.

On August 11, 1973, Chris was united in marriage to Dale Newell at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, IA. They started their own trucking business where she served as the bookkeeper and was Dale’s co-driver.

In her free time, Chris liked to play games on the computer, volunteer as a teacher’s aid for the MMC School System, raise Corgis, and spend time at family reunions, but most of all, Chris enjoyed being around her family and helping those in need.

On March 9, 2010, Chris passed away unexpectedly at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Newell of Meriden, IA; one daughter, Tammy Trout of North Little Rock, AR; son Tim (Phyllis) Ricklefs and their son, C.J. of Marcus, IA; one brother, Richard (Sharon) Christie of Des Moines, IA; one step-daughter, Marlo Casaday of Kingsley, IA; as well as other nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

I was very sorry to hear of Maredith's passing. I was looking forward to our class reunion this summer when we could all catch up on each others lives. I missed our 45th reunion, and now I've missed the opportunity to see Ron Witt and Maredith. I still have many wonderful memories of Maredith and all my 1960 classmates. I was looking through some old valentines that my mother saved for me from my second or third grade. We all exchanged them in class. I was planning on bringing them back to show the classmates for laughs. There were a couple of cute ones from Maredith and I was looking forward to seeing her reaction to them. I could imagine a hearty laugh that I still had them after 60 years or so. Anyway you have our sympathies and just wanted you to know our prayers are with you.
