Anton "Tony" L. Matula, the son of Joseph and Emma (Fetter) Matula, was born August 14, 1919, in Chelsea, IA. His childhood years were spent on the family farm near Chelsea. He received his education from St. Joseph Catholic School.

After his schooling, Tony was drafted by the U.S. Army where he worked for the railroad. On April 26, 1945, Tony was united in marriage to Elanor Denney in Tama, IA.

Following their marriage they moved to Marshalltown, IA where he worked for the Lennox dealer. He then went into farming for four years near Ankeny, IA.

On August 9, 1949, Tony and his family moved to Cherokee, IA. Tony and Elanor both worked for the State Hospital. In 1955, they moved to Aurelia, IA. Tony then went to work for the railroad before it closed, and in 1958, he went to work for Lundell Construction for 24 years.

Tony was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. Most of all, Tony enjoyed being around his family and friends.

On Friday, March 12, 2010, Tony passed away at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife Elanor Matula, of Cherokee, IA; one son, Denney Matula of Cherokee, IA; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.



SERVICES
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 26, 2010, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
