Robert A. Brink

 

Robert A. Brink, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Tuesday December 4, 2007, at his home following a brief illness.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Burial will be in the Correctionville Cemetery, Correctionville, Iowa.  V.F.W.   L.A. Wescott Post # 2253 will provide graveside honors at 2:00 P.M. at the cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 -8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa.  Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com

 

Robert was born January 18, 1918 in Marion, Iowa to Harry and Minnie Belle (Smith) Brink. He attended school in Correctionville, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1935.  Following his graduation he worked for Greeley’s Grocery Store for 3 years, Wayne and Bob’s City Service on Highway 20 for 2 years, and managed a State Liquor Store for 2 years.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Corps from October of 1942 to March of 1945.  On May 19, 1945 he married Betty Ward in Lakewood, Ohio. She preceded him in death December 25, 1998.

 

Robert began working for the Economics Lab in October of 1945 and stayed with the same company for 28 years.  He retired as Vice-President of National Accounts.  During his career he lived in Cleveland, Ohio; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City; the Bay Area of California; and Fullerton, California; Robert retired in February of 1973 and was proud  of being retired longer than he had spent working.  Following his retirement Robert and Betty had lived in Rancho Bernardo, California; San Diego, California; and moved to Cherokee, Iowa in September of 1989.  He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Dr. Steve Veit, of Cherokee, Iowa; sons, Gary Ward Brink, of Los Gatos, California; Bob Brink, and his wife, Cyndye Polsgrove, of Murietta, California;  granddaughters, Sara Kaufman, and her husband, Jorun, of Kansas City, Missouri; Julia Walker, and her husband, Justin, of Denver, Colorado;  Anna Veit- Carter, and her husband, Jonathon, of Madison, Wisconsin; a grandson, Stephen Veit, of Cherokee, Iowa; a great-granddaughter, Ryla Kaufman; a brother, Harry Brink, of Cherokee, Iowa.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers (Harold, Ted, and Wayne),

a sister (Beulah), sisters-in-law (Catherine and Evelyn Brink).
