George Lowell “Bill” Willbrandt,
98, of Cherokee, Iowa died Tuesday November 6,
2007 in Remsen, Iowa following a brief illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday November
9, 2007 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com
Bill was a lifelong resident of Cherokee, born July 24, 1909
to George and Ethel (Burch) Willbrandt. He attended school in Cherokee and graduated
from Wilson High School in 1927. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Love and
had two daughters, Dolowa and Joan Willbrandt. In 1939
he married Lois Fellom and had one son, Terry Lowell Willbrandt.
Bill was employed by Iowa
Public Service now Midwest Energy for 45 years and worked as a meter
reader. He was a member of the Cherokee
Fire Department from 1949 to 1970 and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and
trapper known for his expertise in these outdoor sports. He was tireless in these endeavors, always
teaching and sharing his passion and patience for these activities with family
members and good friends. Bill enjoyed
himself no matter the activity – whether dancing, playing cards or meeting with
his friends at the community center for lunch.
He also had a great love for the music of Guy Lombardo. Bill’s compassion for his family and friends
was limitless and his kindness and generosity will not be forgotten. Bill was a member of the Memorial
Presbyterian Church in Cherokee.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Joan Hollister of Lincoln,
CA; one son, Terry Willbrandt of Cherokee, IA; eight
grandchildren, Kit Anderson, Mike Hollister, Kelly Ortiz, Kris Marcucci, Tim Hollister, Pat Hollister and Thomine Wilson all of California, and Con Alan Wilson of
Colorado; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; many nieces,
nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois Willbrandt, a daughter Dolowa
Wilson, a sister Marjorie Glassmaker, and two brothers Edwin and Dale Willbrandt.
