Jan was born on October 20, 1922 in Remsen Iowa, the daughter of Ernst and Sena Sjostrom. She grew up in Cherokee, Iowa where she graduated from Wilson High School in 1941. She went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Cherokee.  On May 20, 1943 she married John J. (Jack) Prince, in Bonham, Texas where he was in Flight School for the Army Air Corp. After the end of World War II they settled in Cherokee. In 1949 they moved to Sioux City, where they raised two sons, David and Tom Prince.

Jan loved to garden and had lovely flower gardens. She was an avid golfer, and also served on the Women’s Committee of the Sioux City Symphony Association for a number of years. She was active in PTA and Cub Scouts when her boys were young. She was a member of the Women’s Fellowship at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ where she was a 50 plus year member and served on many church boards and committees.  Jan and Jack enjoyed travel and took many long trips after Jack retired. Above all Jan loved her family, her flowers and her many, many friends. Lunch with the “Girls” was a weekly affair.

Jan is survived by her husband Jack of 64 years; and two sons, David and his wife Annmarie of Lake Elmo, Minnesota and Tom of Sioux City; two grandsons, Michael of St. Paul Minnesota and Peter of New York City, NY; and a sister Harriet Love of Norman, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Sven, Cecil and Raymond; and two sisters: Agnes Leonard and Bessie Anderson. She will be truly missed by her family and many friends.
