Donald George Campbell

Don was born February 28, 1927 in Cherokee, Iowa to Daniel Campbell Sr. and Jeanette (McDonald) Campbell. He graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Cherokee, Iowa. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army, serving in Italy during World War II. Upon discharge from the Army, he joined his father and brothers working for Illinois Central Railroad. November 7, 1949 Don married Barbara Ann Cook in a double ring ceremony with his sister Colleen Campbell and Robert Weis. Don worked for the railroad for the next 42 years as brakeman, conductor and union steward while in his free time "Lefty" played first base for Hamm's softball team for over 20 years. Upon his retirement at age 57 he was able to pursue his many interests which included: golf, daily coffee get-togethers, poker, Meals on Wheels, Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, Knights of Columbus, his beloved Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. His greatest enjoyment throughout his life was following his children and grandchildren's athletic events. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, parents Daniel Sr. and Jeannette, brothers Daniel and Robert and sister Colleen. Survivors include; Chris Campbell of Minneapolis, Cathy (Dave) Blankenbaker of Tucson, AZ, Mark (Jane) Campbell of Cherokee, Molly Campbell of Marion, IL, Jeff (Janet) Campbell of Niles, OH and Sara (Chad) Lang of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers the family would like donations sent to the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry or bring non-perishable items to the visitation or church.
