In Memory of

Harlan 'Harley' W. Meister

Harlan Wayne Meister, was born July 31, 1949, in Sioux City, IA, the son of Clifford L. and Lucille M. (Klug) Meister (Brandt). He grew up in Cherokee, IA, and graduated from Washington High School in 1968. Later that same year he married Maren West. They resided in the Cherokee area, and were blessed with three children. They later divorced. In 1988 he married Daune Brown, who brought 5 children into the family, and Harlan gained another son. Harley began working at Wilson Foods in Cherokee in 1968, and continued to work at that same plant for almost 45 years. During his time there, he worked in nearly every department before his retirement in 2013. He raised livestock for a time, and liked being on the farm. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, golfing, going to auctions, and making something out of nothing. He was very proud of all four of his children, and his favorite pastime was spending time with them and his grandchildren. On Sunday, March 9, 2014, Harlan passed away at his home in Cherokee at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford, his mother Lucy and step-dad Donald Brandt, and his brother, Larry Meister. He will be lovingly remembered by his children and their families: Lisa Meister-Erickson and husband, Monte, of Le Mars, IA, son Kevin Meister and wife, Melinda, son Bill Meister and significant other Suzanne Gustafson, and son Jim Thatcher and his wife, Shilo, all of Cherokee; his grandchildren, Eric and Lucas Erickson, Chelsea and husband, Jake Van Roekel, Elizabeth and Victoria Gustafson, and Desiree, Drake, Teagan and Alyssa Thatcher; a sister, Janett and husband Roger Tripp of North Sioux City, SD; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
