In Memory of

Nicole Peterson

Nicole Sofia Peterson was born in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, on April 11, 2001. Nicole and her twin sister, Natalie, overcame the odds after being born at just 30 weeks. At the age of two they were adopted by Brent and Mary Peterson and moved to the United States. Nicole was a freshman at Cherokee High School, participating in chorus, band and book club. She loved playing the piano and her clarinet. Her faith and her church family were an integral part of her life, and she was active in the youth activities at Bethlehem Lutheran. She was confirmed in the Christian faith on October 30, 2016. Along with the busyness of being a teenager, she still managed to find time to enjoy some baking and reading. She loved to watch movies, especially those with Robin Williams. She gave the world's greatest backrubs. Her friends and family knew her as a kind, sweet girl who loved young children and animals. Her heart was as big as life, and as an organ donor, she gave the unselfish gift of a chance at a better life for others in need. Nicole's untimely death at age 15, on April 5, 2017, was as premature as her birth. She was welcomed into Heaven by her grandmother, Margene Chelsvig. Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Brent and Mary Peterson, twin sister, Natalie Peterson; her grandparents, Gerald Peterson and Phyllis Peterson, both of Cherokee, and Clyde Chelsvig of Boone, IA; her aunts and uncles: John & Cathy Chelsvig and their children Margaret, Billy and Libby, Sue Chelsvig, Tim & Pam Christensen and their children Drew and Matthew Sky, and Kelley Clausen and son, Lance Winkel; other relatives and many friends.
