In Memory of

David W. Rohwer

December 8, 1952 - January 8, 2013
David William Rohwer, the son of Richard and Lois (Phipps) Rohwer, was born in Cherokee, Iowa on December 8, 1952. He was baptized in 1952, and confirmed in 1966. His childhood years were spent in northwest Iowa. He attended school in Sheldon, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1971. He received training in auto repair from NCC in Sheldon. In 1972, Dave was drafted into the U.S. Army. Since the Viet Nam conflict was nearing its end, he was fortunate enough not have to go to Vietnam, but was, instead, stationed in Alaska for two years in the Army Corps of Engineers. After moving back from Alaska, Dave returned to Primghar, Iowa where he ran Dave's Electric. A few years later he joined the City of Primghar's Municipal Utilities, working as a journeyman power lineman. On August 26, 1977, he was united in marriage to Sandy Schoof. They lived in the Primghar area until 1985. On August 13, 1981 Sandy gave birth to their son, Ryan Rohwer. Starting in 1985, the family spent the next 15 years in Sanborn where Dave worked for the city as a power lineman and cable TV technician. During this time he was integral in establishing the cable TV system for the city of Sanborn. In 2000 he went to work as lead cable technician for WesTel Systems in Marcus--a position he held until his accident in June 2012. No matter where he called home, Dave enjoyed being involved in the community--whether it was a church board, library board, city council, Jaycees or the local fire department. He loved to go camping and fishing with his family and his friends. He took great pride in working outside in his yard. Dave passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa, at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by his mother, his father-in-law, Leonard Schoof, brother-in-law, Mark Langholz, and his beloved canine companion, Maggie. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; son Ryan and his girlfriend, Katie Carver of Ft. Wayne, IN; his father, Richard Rohwer of Cherokee; his siblings: Dean (Val) Rohwer of Sutherland, IA, Donna (Gerard) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Danette (Brian) Cooper of Monmouth, IL, and Dianne (Randy) Hogan of Sanborn, IA; his mother-in-law, Naoma Schoof of Sanborn, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sharon (Greg) Fritzsche, Sue Langholz, Steve (Cheryl) Schoof, and Sherry (Lyle) Tifft; his little dog, Zoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and so many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 11, 2013, at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Iowa.

“Dear Sandy, Ryan, and family, I was sad when I heard of Dave's accident and even sadder when I heard of his passing. I will continue to ask God to give you the strength to get through this extremely difficult time. I can't help but think of the special friendship Brad and Ryan developed when we all lived in Sanborn. Sincerely, Laura Heeney (Brad Cronin's mother)”

“Dear Sandy, Ryan and Katie-
We want to send our sympathies and apologize for being unable to attend the visitation or funeral. We will try to get together with Sandy in the near future. We want you to know that your devotion and love for Dave are an awesome example to all who witnessed your efforts to care for him. We pray that God will give you comfort knowing that you did your very best for Dave, but that God wanted him to suffer no more and took Dave home.
You will continue to be in our prayers.

“To Dean and Val and all of Davids family, I am so sorry to hear that the end of your brother's life has come. Your pain and grief began on that fateful June day and has continued for you and the entire family for so long. After reading David's obituary I concluded the world lost a fine man, committed and involved with family and community. Dean, if he was even near as kind and helpful as his brother, I wish I would have known him. I worked with trauma and I believe there is so much more future in Heaven for David than on this earth so injured. May all the family find such peace and comfort in their memories of him at his best. Brothers can't be replaced but they can be wonderfully and warmly remembered forever. My best to you.....Pamela Harrmann”
