In Memory of

Natasha 'NaNa' Olhausen

December 31, 1977 - November 20, 2014
Natasha 'Na Na' Olhausen, the daughter of Keith and Norma (Klingborg) Olhausen, made her entrance into this world on December 31, 1977. She grew up in Cherokee, Iowa. During her years at Washington High School, Na Na's peers named her Prom Queen and Homecoming Parade Marshall. She graduated with the class of 1997, and was forever the Cherokee Braves #1 fan. She was the single recipient of a free lifetime membership to attend any and all Cherokee School Events. She did her best to put that membership to good use. She worked at Hy Vee for six years, and spent ten years helping with children at Bright Beginnings Day Care. Na Na possessed an eternally optimistic attitude. Her love of life was evident in her cheerful disposition. She greeted everyone with an infectious smile, and if you met her once, you were considered to be her friend. She was very good at remembering names. She loved being involved in community activities. She was once named the Parade Marshall for the Barnes Rodeo parade. She was incredibly lucky at winning prizes on the radio, or having her name drawn in local contests. Every holiday was her 'favorite' holiday. Na Na was blessed with a giving heart, and was always willing to help out in any way she could. Her greatest gift was that of tissue, skin and bone donation following her death on Thursday, November, 20, 2014. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Everett and Mona Olhausen and Oscar and Evelyn Klingborg. Survivors include her parents, Keith and Norma Olhausen, her brother Mike (Molly) Olhausen, all of Cherokee, her sister Michelle (Brian) Henley of Aurelia, IA; her nieces and nephews: Nick (Mary) Olhausen of Dakota Dunes, SD, Natalie Olhausen of Cherokee, and Shawn Henley of Aurelia, IA; her great-neices, Lauren and Emily Olhausen; several aunts, uncles and cousins; many, many friends. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Natasha's name to be used in several local projects.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

“To Keith and Norma, Natasha was a sweet soul and Arlys, Dave, and I always had the most precious moments in yours and Natasha's company. I know I am very late but I have always prayed for you all as you were the best of friends to Arlys. I loved sitting on the dock in Storm Lake with all of you on warm summer nights. My heart has gone out to you tonight.”

“Please accept my condolences on the loss of Natasha. I was the boy's basketball coach in Cherokee for 3 years in the early 2000's. When I moved on to LeMars, Natasha always made a point to come and talk and reminisce about my time there. She was a great young lady that was friendly and giving. I will miss her infectious smile and things certainly won't be the same when our teams play again this year. She was no only Cherokee's number one fan but in my eyes she was Cherokee. I wish you all the best in dealing with this loss. God Bless!!”

“I can't recall my last visit with Nana, but it certainly involved her asking about my sister, my husband and my children. She always cared about everyone she met, which made it easy to smile when I saw her. My favorite memory of Nana was when she won the spelling bee at the sesquicentennial celebration. What a proud moment! We know that Natasha is beaming from Heaven as we smile fondly of memories made. God speed, Natasha. We'll cheer a little louder at the next game in memory of you.”

“There are too many memories with Tasha that I will forever cherish. From birthday parties, LYO activities, school events, and just seeing her everywhere I went! She lived to be part of everything this community had going for it! I will miss the jolly, bubbly, proud-of-herself Nana she once was. I'm so thankful my kids got to know her as well and will always remember her. My deepest condolences to her parents and extended family. ”

“With a saddened heart I write this. My heary broke when I heard of Nana's passing. She was my daycare helper right after my burn and she never let me be alone and it was awesome. She always had a smile on her face. She asked everyone how they where. Sporting events in Cherokee will never be the same without her smile and cheering. She is sitting in heaven watching the boys and girls play the sports she loved for ever and ever. I was personally struck hard as well as others. Rest in Peace Nana. you will be missed. I love ya. Ill miss you. ”

“so sorry to hear of Tasha's passing, she touched everyone she met with her own way of happiness. Her memory of names was amazing to me, she also would know me by my name years ago at HyVee and knew that Amber was my granddaughter before I even knew that Tasha knew Amber. Prayers to the family, can't you just see her in Heaven, smiling and greeting everyone with her bubbly smile and outlook on life. I can. Heaven gained a happy angel. It won't be quite the same when I come back to Cherokee and not see her around somewhere about town. RIP Tasha

“We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Nana. I have so many memories of her. I first met her at the Wellness Center, and it didn't take long for that fun loving energy of hers to brighten our day. We always looked forward to seeing what she was going to be wearing on the holidays...some wacky pair of glasses, a wild hat or headband some feathers, or maybe a 'Dolly Parton' costume. And she always made the cutest 'turkey' cookies for Thanksgiving. She was the luckiest person always winning something on the radio. And the excitement she had spilled over to all of us. She was a good reminder not to take things in life so serious, and to have fun! She will be missed. Our hearts go out to you all..... Donna Lee Bob & Lainey”

“The news of NaNa's passing hit me very hard. I was shocked how saddened I was and my mind raced to the many hugs and memories I had of her. She knew my kids by name and always asked about their well being. I'm not sure I realized how blessed we were to have Natasha in our class until the news of her passing hit us all. She taught us how to be better people. I am certain as she grew with us that she wasn't always shown the love and compassion she deserved, but she never took either from us. NaNa was born to demonstrate compassion, love and to teach us how petty the human condition is. The night we elected her Queen of our class I was never more proud to be a part of the Class of 97. This was a sincere gesture and aggressive campaign as I recall from a group of peers who had matured and realized that she was our biggest fan, and Natasha deserved to be a shining star. I will miss my random Facebook chats with her which didn't happen often, but always made me smile. NaNa, I hope you cheer as loudly in Heaven as you did on earth. ”

“I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Tasha. She was such a special person & great friend. She inspired so many people with her love for life & for anyone she met. Tasha knew my name before I even knew who she was, I attended South O'Brien schools, not Cherokee, but whenever I'd see her in HyVee, she'd call me out by name.....or she'd see my parents (Gail & Grace Swanson) in there & would have to ask about all of us kids. Years later I started working at Bright Beginnings daycare during the summer & Tasha was working there too. So many fun memories with her there! She always greeted with a smile & excitement wherever I'd see her at around town. I will miss talking with her in person & on facebook. Sending thoughts & prayers to all of her family & loved ones. She was one of a kind & will never be forgotten. RIP Tasha, you will be missed by so many!! Watch over all of us in heaven now, k. Good bye sweet friend. :( God bless you!”

“I was so surprised and sorry to hear of Natasha's passing. She was bright, bubbly, so friendly and had such a good heart. I worked with her at Cherokee Work Services when she was in high school, and helped her get her job at HyVee. Although that was over 15 years ago, I recently saw her at the Copper Cup, and it was just like we had seen each other yesterday. She always made me smile, and she will be dearly missed.”

“WOW! What a shock it was to hear of this news. If only more people had the outlook Natasha had on life. There is no question as to why God put her here on Earth. Her smile, her laugh, and her compassion. She loved everyone! She never met a stranger. There has never been a greater, more vocal, supporter of Cherokee Braves anything. Now we have our very own "angel in the outfield" or heaven as this case may be. You can just imagine her in heaven making friends and gathering support for her team! God bless you all in the days to come and may you lean on the strength of Jesus to get you thru.”

“It always amazed me that each time Nana and I ran into each other, she remembered our last conversation (sometimes it had been months or more than a year). She was always there with an excited smile to greet everyone. Nana even called my parents by their first name, which always made me giggle a little bit. Nana literally knew everyone, young and old. She was such a dedicated fan and the best basketball manager anyone could ask for. She sure took her job serious! :) I even remember her talking to the visiting team because she knew most of those people as well! Nana helped plan our 15-year class reunion and was very eager to help. Nana even wore her prom queen tiara to the reunion, which was great. I have seen all of the pictures everyone has posted of her, I can't imagine how many pictures she has on her own camera as she loved to get her picture taken. I have very good memories of Nana and she has left an impression on the entire Cherokee community. The entire Olhausen family has my sympathy. ”
