She attended rural elementary school at Sioux Point, South Dakota until 1946, Elk Point School for one year, and then finished her education in Sioux City, Iowa, where she graduated from Heelan High School in 1950.

After a storm demolished the church in August, 2006, she became a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, where she sang with the I.C. funeral choir and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. For many years, she and Jim were avid members of the Marcus and Kingsley square dance clubs.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, square dancing, playing cards, writing letters, and reading 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' books. She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her four sons and three daughters: Dennis (Deb) Bush of Cleghorn, IA, Patricia (Doug) Mortenson of Maple Grove, MN, Wayne Bush of Cherokee, IA, Charlotte (Joseph) Groves of Cherokee, IA, Evonne (Chris) Hockert of Stanchfield, MN, Alan (Christine) Bush of Cleghorn, IA, and Bryan (Lori) Bush of Cleghorn, IA.
