Phyllis Catherine (Smith) Cosgrove, was born December 10, 1916 on a farm near Elgin, NE to Joseph Smith and Margaret Ann Baum Smith. Phyllis attended school in Raeville, NE and graduated from Elgin High School in 1934. After working in Nebraska and attending National Business Training School (NBT) in Sioux City, Phyllis moved to Cherokee and was employed at Cherokee State Bank from 1941-1951.
Phyllis was married to Leo Cosgrove in 1950 and they lived on the Cosgrove Brothers farm near Meriden. Leo passed away on February 10, 1986. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie Schrad, and an infant sister, Helen Rose.
Phyllis served on the Red Cross board, was a 4-H leader for 10 years, president of the local Catholic Daughters of America, gave book reviews for 15 years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Phyllis cared for her Aunt Pat and Uncle Earl Shulters for 11 years.
Survivors include niece, Kathy Cosgrove Green of Fort Collins, Colorado and nephew, Mike Cosgrove of Dallas, TX and their families as well as nieces and nephews; Rosemary Heying and David Schrad of Petersburg, NE, Kenneth Schrad of Elkhart, Indiana, and Carol Jean Schleffler of Albion, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 4:30-5:30 p.m., and again at 7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary conducted by the Catholic Daughters and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Thursday at the funeral home.
