In Memory of

Lola Kay Paeper

September 1, 1951 - February 8, 2018
From: Cherokee, IA

Lola Kay Paeper, the daughter of Gale and Helen (Wright) Henson was born September 1, 1951, in Sac City, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sac City where she attended school and graduated from Sac Community High School.

On September 14, 1968, Lola was united in marriage to Russell Paeper in Nemaha, IA. They lived in Storm Lake for two years before moving to Cherokee. She worked for Casey’s for 15 years, managed Subway for five years, Wiese Oil for 10 years, and then she worked as a bookkeeper for Culligan for 10 years until her retirement in 2015.

Lola enjoyed the outdoors. From tending to her beautiful flowers, to watching the birds gather at the feeders, to sitting on lawn chairs with Russell at Mill Creek watching the water and nature pass by. She also loved to travel. The highlight was the trip that they took to Hawaii six years ago. More than anything, Lola enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

On February 8, 2018, Lola passed away at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gale and Helen (Wright) Henson; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Hazel Paeper; two brothers, LaVern Henson, and Donald Henson; and one nephew, Jeff Henson.

She will lovingly be remembered by her husband, Russell Paeper of Cherokee, Iowa,  two children, Jill (Jared) Peterson of Cherokee, IA, and Mark (Sue) Paeper of Ankeny, IA; four granddaughters, Samantha (Eric) VanRoekel of Cherokee, IA, Emma Myers and special friend Jacky Reyes of Cherokee, IA, Raina Paeper of Ankeny, IA, and Hayley Paeper of Ankeny, IA; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Lance VanRoekel of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Barbara (Waldo) Christiansen of Stillwater, MN, and Janet Niles of Cherokee, IA; brothers, Marlin (Bonnie) Henson of Sac City, IA, Howard (Rosemary) Henson of Storm Lake, IA, and Darrell (Linda) Henson of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Cheri Henson of Carroll, IA; brothers-in-law, Everett Paeper of Aurelia, IA, and Gale Paeper of San Bernardino, CA; several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

“Forty years ago a nervous young man interviewed a more nervous young woman for a job at Caseys. The result, a wonderful lifelong friendship with a special lady, her husband, and children. So dependable, honest, caring, and customer orientated, she was why the business was a success. We are forever thankful for her becoming a part of our life in Cherokee!!
To you Russ,Jill, and Mark, our sincere sympathy and love. We're so sorry we cannot be there for her celebration of life, but know we will be there in spirit. As does yours, my heart aches too,she will always be special to me. God Bless and God Speed!!

“We knew Lola as long as Mark and Sue have been married. She was a very nice person and we always enjoyed seeing Lola and Russ. She was always a proud grandma and I know they loved her very much! It is a sad thought that we will not be able to enjoy her company again. Sympathy to all the family. Cindy and Forrest Meyer ”
