Albert A. Bofenkamp

Albert was born on January 13, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Viola (Nelson) Bofenkamp. He spent most of his childhood in Sac City, Iowa, moving to Cherokee with his family in 1954. He graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1956. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1961.

Albert married Mary Ney on October 7, 1961, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Primghar. The couple then resided in Cherokee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association and the Rotary Club.

He spent most of his working years in law enforcement with the city of Cherokee for one year and with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department from 1970 until his retirement in 2000.

Since his retirement he especially enjoyed time spent with his granddaughter and other family members and friends, summertime at Okoboji with family and friends and the Bofenkamp reunions.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, two sons, Bruce Bofenkamp (Kerry Midland) of LeMars, Iowa and Bradley and Jane (Mellon) Bofenkamp of Wake Forest, North Carolina and one daughter, Barbara Bofenkamp of Coralville, Iowa; one grandchild, Eva Jane Bofenkamp; one sister, Carma (Dale) Peck of Peterson, Iowa and one brother, Gerald (LoAnn) Bofenkamp of Flowerville, Michigan, and in laws Mary Jo Bofenkamp Niles, Ohio, Donna Bofenkamp, Cherokee, Iowa, Shirley Ney and Patrick (Marlene) Ney of Arnolds Park, Iowa, and Sue Hill of Sutherland, Iowa and 25 nieces and nephews .

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Viola Bofenkamp; one son, Brian Bofenkamp in 1976; four brothers infant Robert, Arthur (Beverly) Bofenkamp, Donald Bofenkamp, David Bofenkamp, one sister Jean (Ward) Allen and in-laws, Anthony and Evelyn Ney, John G. Ney and Linda (Robert) Hughes.
