Alberta Heschke

April 26, 1921 — June 24, 2012

Alberta Marie (Sanders) Heschke, the daughter of Lela (Dearth) and Earnest Sanders, was born in Story County, Iowa on April 26, 1921. When Alberta was 8 years old, her family moved to the Newell and Varina, IA areas. She attended the local schools. She then went to work as a housekeeper in Newell. On August 16, 1941 she was united in marriage to Darel Heschke in South Sioux City, NE. They farmed near Alta, IA for many years. Alberta enjoyed working alongside Darel on the farm, and took an active role in milking cows, feeding hogs and crop farming. She lovingly cared for her home and their daughters, Leah and Shirley. She loved to cook, and enjoyed crocheting, traveling and fishing. She taught Sunday school at the Elk Baptist Church in rural Alta for many years. Alberta passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Countryside Estates Nursing Home in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 91 years, 1 month, 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, a great-great-grandson, Kade Alicehouse, a son-in-law, Merlin West, sister-in-law, Alma Heschke, 3 brothers-in-law, Ellis Frances, Johnny Heschke, and Bob Heschke, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bessie and Charlie Heschke, other relatives and friends. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Darel of Cherokee; two daughters, Leah West of Meriden, IA, and Shirley (Ron) Peterson of Cherokee; 8 grandchildren: Yvonne (Kenny) Dodd, Sharon Nicholson, all of Cherokee, Keith West of Alta, IA (ex-wife, Pam of Fonda, IA), Ted West of Cleghorn, IA, Kelly (Michon) West of Sioux Falls, SD, Laurie (Ed) Garvin of Cherokee, Angie (Tracy) Stevenson of Quimby, IA, and Joe (Jessie) Peterson of Cherokee;10 great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Jessie Alicehouse) Nicholson, Nicole (John) Gray, Erica Nicholson, Zachary Dodd, Nathan Dodd, Avery West, Tenise Stevenson, Trent Stevenson, Jesica Garvin and Logan Peterson; 3 great-great-grandchildren: Braden, Brooklyn and Ava, and 3 step great-great-grandchildren: Devin, Zachary and Rylee; brother-in-law, Ken (Sarah) Heschke of Pella, IA; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Frances of Storm Lake, IA, and Bernice Heschke of Carson City, NV.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. The family will be present during that time.
