Arlene Frances Lamont

Arlene Frances Lamont, the daughter of Clarence and Vera (Harris) Smith was born December 20, 1923, on a farm two miles west and three north of Paullina, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent near Paullina where she attended a rural school and eventually Paullina High School. Upon graduation she attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. After college Arlene taught first grade in Orient, IA for one year and then moved to Lake Park, IA where she started the kindergarten classroom. On June 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Wilmer Lamont in the Methodist Church in Paullina, IA. They lived on a farm north of Meriden, IA. They had three children- Dale who died at birth, Carol and Bonnie. In her later years, Arlene and Bonnie attended the Wilton Cake Decorating School in Chicago, IL and learned how to decorate cakes. She will forever be known as the "Cake Lady." Arlene was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and taking care of her small animals especially her cats and chickens. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. On Thursday, September 06, 2012, Arlene passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Lamont; infant son, Dale Lamont; one son-in-law, Dennis Skaggs; one nephew, Leo Hennen; one brother, Russel Smith; and two sisters, Ruth and Ellen. She is survived by two daughters: Carol (Dale) Fisher of Royal, IA, and Bonnie (Larry) Prell of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren: Brian (Kristi) Fisher, Scott Fisher, Kristen Fisher, Heidi (Scott) Hennen, Alan (Jenni) Skaggs, Wendy (Tim) Ellison, and Kyle (Megan) Skaggs; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Clarance Smith, Lucille Sullivan, her twin Maurene Johnson, Erma Sheley, and Ione Kehoe; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 13, 2012 at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
