Barbara E. Rupp

July 16, 1932 — November 17, 2011

Barbara E. Rupp, the daughter of Ignatius Paul and Anna Clara (Smydra) Sivinski, was born July 16, 1932, in Ashton, NE. She lived with her family on a farm located near the Wood River in Shelton, NE until age three when they moved to Homer, NE. The family then moved to Rosalie, NE where they endured seven years of drought during the dust bowl years. They later moved to Arthur, IA for three years. After renting farms for years they bought a farm north of Meriden with Mill Creek running through it. Barb graduated from Meriden High Schoool at the age of 16 in 1949. On January 29, 1951, Barb was united in marriage to Norman Rupp at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Shortly after their marriage Norman left to fight in the Korean War. While away at war, Barb welcomed their first newborn to the family, eventually having four children. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Barb worked various jobs but her favorite job was being a homemaker. Barb was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed fishing, yard work, spending time at their home at West Lake Okoboji, reading, and traveling. Most of all, she loved being around her friends and family. On November 17, 2011, Barb passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignatius and Anna Sivinski; and her siblings: Joe, Jim, and Adrian Sivinski and Mary Ann Heise. She is survived by her husband, Norman Rupp of Cherokee, IA; children: Pam Rupp of Cherokee, IA, Greg (Renee) Rupp of Cherokee, IA, Brad (Nancy) Rupp of Plant City, FL, and Lori (Rob) LaFleur of Minneapolis, MN; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carla (Charlie) Hines of Lincoln, NE; one brother, Jacek Sivinski of Albuquerque, NM; sisters-in-law, Jan (late Jim) Sivinski of Minneapolis, MN, Ava (late Adrian) Sivinski of Omaha, NE, and Collette (late Joe) Sivinski of Cherokee, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
