Bernard D. Bond

Bernard D. Bond, the son of William and Elizabeth (Eshelman) Bond, was born on July 21, 1924, in Bridgewater, IA. His childhood years were spent in Fontanelle, IA where he received his education. After his schooling, Bernard worked on a neighbor's farm. He also worked construction and was a telephone lineman. On April 14, 1956, Bernard was united in marriage to Joyce Igou in Spirit Lake, IA. Following their marriage, Bernard worked as a hired man and worked on farms near the communities of Spirit Lake, Larabee, IA, Terrill, IA, and finally Marcus, before retiring in 1985. Bernard enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, going to morning coffee, traveling, and maintaining his lawn. Most of all, he loved being around his family and friends. On January 24, 2011, Bernard passed away at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, IA, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce in 1998; his parents, William and Elizabeth Bond; six sisters; and three brothers. He is survived by his five children: Chris (Brian) Gates of Kansas City, KS, Sheila (Frank) Yender of Nemaha, IA, Dean Bond of Spencer, IA, Jerry Bond of Spencer, IA, and Cathy (Billy) Hupp of Kansas City, MO; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ellwood Bond of Fontanelle, IA; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday night at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus.
