Betty L. Jensen

Betty Louise Fogelman, the daughter of Malcolm and Sarah (Husted) Fogelman, was born in O'Brien County, Iowa on December 11, 1928. She was raised in the Sutherland area and graduated from Sutherland High School with the Class of 1946. On June 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Alfred E. Jensen at the Sutherland United Church of Christ. They raised their five children in Sutherland. Betty and Al enjoyed dance and card clubs and spent many hours fishing down at the river. She was an avid bowler and held various offices in the American Legion Auxillary and Eastern Star. She spent many hours babysitting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Sutherland United Methodist Church. In June of 2006, after living most of their married life in Sutherland, Al and Betty downsized into a small apartment in Paullina,IA. In September of 2012, they moved to the Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, IA. Following Al's death on April 22, 2013, Betty moved to the Sutherland Care Center. She passed away there, surrounded by family, on January 30, 2014, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Sherri and her husband, Tom Nelson, grandson Todd Nelson, great-grandson Damen Dau, two sisters and their husbands, Marion and Don Johnson and Marilyn and Paul Braunschweig, and nephew Gary Johnson. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Julie (Dennis) Dau of Granville,IA, Dale (Janelle) Jensen of Kansas City, MO, Andrea (Joel) Orthmann of Marcus, IA, and Jim (Dawn) Jensen of Sutherland,IA; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Burdette (Faith) Fogelman of Webb, IA; in-laws, John (Helen) Jensen, Doris Jensen and Paul Jensen; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland.
