Betty L. Nafe

January 25, 1950 — August 20, 2017

Betty Lou Nafe (Skou) was born on January 25, 1950 in Ida Grove, Iowa during a snow storm to David Foster Skou and Rita Catherine Skou. She spent her childhood years growing up in Galva, Iowa and graduated in 1969. Betty was the second of six children. Following graduation, she married James Mallison. In this union, three children were born, James (Jim) David, Michael Wayne, and Barbara Jean. On September 3, 1976, she married Wayne Eugene Nafe at First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. To this union, Catherine Elaine was born. While raising four small children, Betty enjoyed caring for the elderly at Hiserote's Riverview Manor. She later became employed at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute from December 26, 1978, specializing in Direct Patient Care until her retirement date of December 26, 2008. She kept herself busy with employment at the Gasthaus Bar and Grille, the local McDonalds, and at our very own Hy-Vee. She also enjoyed her time partaking in various cross-stitch projects and many other needlepoint hobbies. She gleamed at the completion of each project. It was always important for Betty to keep updated on her grandkid's lives. She would attend graduations, ceremonies, ball games, and birthdays. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bonnie Hintz, brother-in-law, Larry, and great grandchild, Christopher James Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Nafe; siblings, Bonita Gordon, Diana Otto (Rich), David Lee Skou (Patty), and Donnie Skou (Connie); children, Jim Mallison (Angie), Michael Mallison (Theresa), Barbara Mallison (Jaryl), and Catherine Hirschman (Richard); mother-in-law, Violetta Betts; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
