Betty Lou Orthmann

December 18, 1934 — July 24, 2019

Betty Lou Orthmann, age 84, formerly of Peterson, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 24^th, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her children.

Betty Lou, the daughter of Carter and Violet (Haley) Davis, was born on December 18, 1934, at Spencer Community Hospital. She was raised on a farm near Gillette Grove, IA, and attended Gillette Grove School, graduating in 1953. During her high school years, she excelled at basketball, earning an opportunity to compete in the Iowa High School free throw event in Des Moines.

Betty Lou married Robert (Bob) Orthmann on March 7, 1958. They were blessed with three children; Daryl, Denise and Gayl, and four grandchildren. Betty Lou loved being a farmwife and raising their children on the family farm. She enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine, tending to her flowers, and pampering the outdoor cats who called the farm ‘home’. Betty Lou adored her grandchildren and spending family time together, especially at the holidays. One of her favorite pastimes was coffee time at OAO- she enjoyed keeping up on the local activities and catching up with friends.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by husband Robert (Bob) Orthmann, parents Carter and Violet Davis, mother and father-in-law Ed and Nellie Orthmann, brother Myron Davis, sister Jean Scott, brother-in-law Bill Scott, sister Darlene Koenig, brother- in- law Robert Engel, sister-in- law Beverly Orthmann, and brother-in-law Danny Theissen.

Left to treasure her memory are her children; Daryl (Donna) Orthmann of Savage, MN, Denise (Morrie) Milldrum of Grand Island, NE, and Gayl Orthmann of Tularosa, NM; grandchildren, Shane Roder of Victoria, KS, Matthew Milldrum of Austin, TX, Megan Orthmann and Madison Orthmann, both of Savage MN; sister Glathan (Wayne) Langel of Milford IA, and many other relatives and friends.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Peterson UMC, the CRU team or the Peterson Lions Club.

SERVICES

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Peterson, Iowa.
Burial will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.

Visitation will be AT THE CHURCH on Wednesday, July 31st from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

INTERMENT

Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, Iowa
10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday.
