Betty Ruth Krause

Betty Ruth Krause, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Edwards) Pfaff, was born December 29, 1918, in Sioux City, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Sioux City where she attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1936. On August 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harlen E. Conard in Sioux City, IA. To this union, three daughters were born. Following their marriage they worked in the restaurant business for over 25 years where they were owners of Conard's Cafe in Cherokee. Harlen passed away May 12, 1970. In 1971, Betty married Darrell Bakker in Cherokee. He passed away unexpectedly in 1977. In 1983, she was united in marriage to Dr. August W. Krause. He passed away in 2003. Betty was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading. Most of all Betty enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 16, 2013, Betty passed away at Careage Hills Nursing Home at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her three husbands: Harlen Conard, Darrell Bakker, and Dr. August W. Krause; her parents, Fred and Anna Pfaff; two brothers, Louis Pfaff and Dan Pfaff; one grandson, Shawn Mulkins in 2002; and Dr. August Krause's son, Kim in 2013. She is survived by her three daughters, Sharyl (Kyle) Mathison of Louisville, KY, Julie (Chuck) Tolzin of Cherokee, IA, and Susan (Phil) Yenerich of Sahuarita, AZ; Dr. August Krause's daughter, Lorri (Jimmie) Stevenson of Quimby, IA; grandchildren: Chris (Kim) Mathison of Nevada, IA, Lisa (David) Kerr of Bollingbrook, IL, Anne (John) Holmes of Columbus, GA, Laura (Brian) Benson of Cherokee, IA, and James (Tania) Mulkins of Sahuarita, AZ; Jill (Denny) Paltz of Aurelia, IA, Sherry (G.W.) Taylor of Lenexa, KS; daughter-in-law, Lucy Krause and her children, Adam, Kevin, Cooper, and Zachary; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley (Wilbur) Hof of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, with the family present from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday night at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
