D. Duane Hackett

Duane was born June 20, 1934 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Marion and Ida Mae (Schieuer) Hackett. He married Joanne Mary Weber on June 17, 1957 and to this union two children were born, Renee Mary and Kenneth Duane. After graduating from Climbing Hill High School in 1952, Duane worked with his father on their family farm. Later he moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1957 where he worked as a field man for Farm Bureau and a salesman for Garden Engineering. In 1959 he moved to Marcus, Iowa where he was a sales manager for the Cherokee Silo Company and he again worked as a field man for Farm Bureau when he moved near Burt, Iowa in 1960. In 1964 he moved to St. Mary's, Kansas where he worked as a salesman for Directory Services of Algona and was promoted in 1968 which prompted a move to Algona, Iowa continuing his work with Directory Services. In 1971 he founded Hackett Associates which sold advertising and created telephone book covers. He did this until 1978 and in January of 1979 he moved to a farm near Lorimor, Iowa. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Republican Committee. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. D. Duane Hackett, 75 of Lorimor, Iowa, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Duane is survived by his two children, Renee Graaf and husband, Gary of Humboldt, Iowa and Kenneth Hackett and wife Tara of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Christine Redemske and husband Bryan, Sarah Shields and husband, Jeremy, Matt Graaf and Liz Weier, Emily Hackett, and Mary Kate Hackett; a great grandson, Jack Redemske; four sisters, Delora Jean Mitchell, Elaine Dyslin, Phyllis Ann (Lee) Campbell, Carol (Don) Gerjets and one brother, Darrell (Iva Jean) Hackett. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Karen Rae Bergert; and a niece, Kathy Mitchell. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. December 16, 2009, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa.
