Darel Heschke

Darel Heschke, the son of Charlie and Bessie (Moriarty) Heschke was born on November 15, 1920 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in and around Truesdale, IA, where he received his education. After his schooling, Darel worked for Everett Anderson helping on the farm. On August 16, 1941, Darel was united in marriage to Alberta Sanders in South Sioux City, NE. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed nearAlta, IA. On March 12, 1945, Darel enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served during WWII until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1946. After his enlistment, Darel and Alberta farmed for Nathan Anderson for many years. They eventually purchased a farm north of Alta where they farmed and raised hogs, cattle, and chickens. Darel enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and driving around the countryside. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. On August 20, 2012, Darel passed away at the Countryside Estates in Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Heschke on June 24, 2012; parents, Charlie and Bessie Heschke; one great-great-grandson, Kade Alicehouse; a son-in-law, Merlin West; sister-in-law, Alma Heschke; two brothers, Johnny Heschke and Bob Heschke; one brother-in-law, Ellis Frances, his mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Earnest and Lela Sanders; and other relatives and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his two daughters, Leah West of Meriden, IA and Shirley (Ron) Peterson of Cherokee, IA; eight grandchildren: Yvonne (Kenny) Dodd, Sharon Nicholson, all of Cherokee, IA, Keith West of Alta, IA , Ted West of Cleghorn, IA, Kelly (Michon) West of Sioux Falls, SD, Laurie (Ed) Garvin of Cherokee, IA, Angie (Tracy) Stevenson of Quimby, IA, and Joe (Jessie) Peterson of Cherokee, IA, 12 great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Jessie Alicehouse) Nicholson, Nicole (John) Gray, Erica Nicholson, Zachary Dodd, Nathan Dodd, Avery West, Tenise Stevenson, Trent Stevenson, Jesica Garvin, Logan Peterson, Austin Peterson, and Whitney Peterson.; four great-great-grandchildren: Braden, Brooklyn, Ava, and Addlyn; three step great-great-grandchildren, Devin, Zachary, and Rylee; brother, Ken (Sarah) Heschke of Pella, IA; one sister, Phylis Frances of Storm Lake, IA; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Heschke of Carson City, NV.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
