Dennis D. Baker

Dennis D. Baker, the son of Ronald 'Pat' and Lois (Coppersmith) Baker, was born October 21, 1938, in Huron, SD. His childhood years were spent in Huron where he attended school and graduated from Huron High School. After receiving his education Dennis served with the U.S. Army for two years while being stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Dennis worked in Huron as a salesman. On October 12, 1974, Dennis was united in marriage to Peggy Mouw in Orange City, IA. Dennis' career in sales led him to several communities over the years. In 1989, he relocated to Cherokee, IA where he was employed with Capper's Readers Service. It is there that he was united in marriage to Deb Peters on March 16, 1991. Dennis enjoyed boating, golf, playing cribbage, watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and coin collecting. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and step-grandchildren. On July 23, 2011, Dennis passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Lois Baker; one brother, Mike Baker; and one brother-in-law, Glen Boscaljon. He is survived by his wife, Deb Baker of Cherokee, IA; three children: Eric Baker and his fiance, Mindy Kinnear of Ponca, NE, Lauren (Randall) Shear of Cherokee, IA, and Sandy (Terry) McGovern of Grand Junction, CO; three step-daughters: Caty (Tracy) Hoeppner of Cherokee, IA, Chelly Strahmann of Cherokee, IA, and Carrie (Todd) Crum of Cherokee, IA; one sister, Marlene Boscaljon of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; father-in-law, Vern Peters of Manson, IA; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
