Dennis Ray Nelson 57, Cherokee, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Cherokee Villa in Cherokee. Funeral arrangements are pending at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be sent at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. Dennis Ray Nelson, the son of Clyde Kenneth and Helen (Johnson) Nelson, was born Dec. 26, 1952 in Schaller. His childhood years were spent in the Marcus area where he attended school. Following his schooling he worked for Farmers COOP of Marcus, France Grain of Cherokee, Lundell Construction of Cherokee, and most recently Schmillen Construction in Marcus. Dennis was united in marriage to Deanna Boever and to this union two sons were born Ken and Kevin. Dennis enjoyed working, watching football, and watching action and western movies. Most of all, Dennis loved visiting with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Helen Nelson; one brother, Kenneth Nelson; and one grandson, Carson Nelson. He is survived by his two sons: Ken (Wendy) Nelson of Sutherland, and Kevin (Traci) Nelson of Sutherland; one brother, Mike (Ann) Nelson of Remsen; three sisters: Kathy (Don) Frederes of Remsen, Gloria (Bob) Swanger of Cleghorn, and Diane (Dean) Dreeszen of Spirit Lake; eight grandchildren; Kody, Patrick, Sam, Thomas, Abigail, Jaymee, Daneille, Reid as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa
