Donna J. Schmidt

Donna Jean Schmidt, the daughter of Fay and Ora (Young) Pettengill, was born on January 11, 1930, in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee where she attended school. She graduated from Wilson High School.

 Donna was united in marriage to Wilfred “Bill” Schmidt in 1947. They made their home in Cherokee and she worked from home helping to raise their three children.

 Donna was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. She loved bowling, playing cards, and fishing. She was an avid golfer and was a member at the Cherokee Country Club for over 50 years. Most of all, Donna enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests. She will be remembered for her one of a kind delicious angel food cake.

 On September 27, 2018, Donna passed away at Careage Hill in Cherokee at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Shirley Jean Pettengill, Virginia Beacham, and Cheryl Messerole.

 She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Craig (Monica) Schmidt of Cherokee, IA, Vicky (Jay) Trees of Boynton Beach, FL, and Mindy (Butch) Rainer of Cherokee, IA; four grandchildren, Courtney McLaughlin, Ragan Weathers, Eric Trees, and Brian Trees; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Harwood of Sioux City, IA, and Delores Gunnerson of Ankeny, IA; one brother, Don Pettengill of Decatur, IA; and other relatives and friends.
