Edwin 'Ed' Lawrence Johnson, the son of Rachel (Beedle) and Lewis Johnson, was born November 27, 1919, in Truman, MN. He received his early education in Minnesota. He later moved to Iowa where he farmed in Cherokee County for many years. On March 10, 1944, Ed was united in marriage to Doris June Steward. Doris was born June 16, 1925 in Cherokee, IA, the daughter of Deforest and Mabel (French) Steward. She grew up in Cherokee, and graduated from Wilson High School. Doris took care of the family home, and was a clerk at Safeway Foods in Cherokee. Doris enjoyed baking and collecting recipes. Ed was employed at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee for 20 years. His duties included driving the ambulance and transporting patients to and from Iowa City. He enjoyed going to gun sales, fishing and hunting. Doris and Ed enjoyed their fishing trips in Minnesota. Most of all, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Doris passed away on October 2, 1991, following a long illness. She was 66. It was her wish that her body be donated to the University of Iowa and later cremated. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Carole June; and nine siblings. Her current survivors include: one sister, Velma Martin of Cherokee, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed passed away at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home on February 6, 2014, at age 94. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris; infant daughter Carole June; 6 brothers and 5 sisters. His current survivors include 2 brothers, Orville 'Dick' Johnson and his wife Germayne of Sutherland, IA, and Earl 'Sonny' Johnson and his wife Elaine of Brainerd, MN; two sisters-in-law; Jeannie Johnson of Gladstone, MO, and Carole Johnson of Osceola, IA ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
