Evart 'Tony' Fulton Peterson

Evart "Tony" Fulton Peterson, the son of Evart and Birdlyn (Fulton) Peterson was born December 21, 1931, in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1950. Tony attended one year of college at Buena Vista College before transferring to Iowa State where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Administration. Following his schooling Evart entered the Army Signal Corps based in Fort Huachuca, AZ. He was honorably discharged two years later. On February 13, 1954, Tony was united in marriage to Gayle Dunn in Cherokee, IA. Tony lived in Illinois, Indiana, South Dakota, and Iowa where he worked for Staley Corp., Schaffer Pen, and Modernfold in Dyersville, IA. In 1990, he moved to Cherokee, IA, where he worked for Carriage Hill, Home Health, and Hospice. He was a very generous man with a great sense of humor that loved helping people. He developed wonderful relationships with patients and their families that have lasted for years. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, and in his free time Tony enjoyed hunting with his brother Chuck and spending time with his special friend Marlene Robbins.. Most of all he enjoyed traveling with his children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly. On November 5, 2009, Tony passed away at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evart and Birdlyn Peterson. He is survived by his two children: Dave (Brenda Tjelta) Peterson of St. Paul, MN, and Martha Parry of Waverly, IA; one brother, Chuck (Charis) Peterson of Cherokee, IA; four grandchildren: Christina and Matt Parry and Thomas and Jillian Peterson; special friend, Marlene Robbins of Marcus, IA; his former wife, Gayle Dunn of Waverly, IA; niece, Betsy Wright; nephew, Tony Peterson; as well as other relatives; and many friends.
SERVICES
Graveside memorial services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa.
