Evelyn Stoner

December 30, 1928 — November 7, 2017

Evelyn Marie (Grauer) Stoner, was born in Cherokee County, IA, on December 30, 1928, to Fred and Cecelia (Mackowski) Grauer. She was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA, and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. She attended the local schools, and graduated from Wilson High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at the local Gambles Store. Her caring nature then led her to attend nurse's training, after which she worked as an LPN at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. On June 24, 1951, Evelyn married Charles Stoner. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Kathleen and Patricia. Evelyn tended her garden, blessing her family with the vegetables that she canned and later prepared. She was an excellent cook. She spent her spare time reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was always up for a visit with family and friends who stopped by. Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother and sister, as well as a caring, supportive friend. Her positive outlook on life brought her through many challenges she faced during her life. Her faith remained strong, and she often spoke of her readiness to go to the place that her heavenly Father had prepared for her. Her death came on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at which time she was reunited with her parents; her husband, Charles; daughter, Kathleen; brothers, Robert and Dale Grauer; sister-in-law, Carole Grauer, and brothers-in-law, Orville Saxby and Don Radke. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Scott Rumfield of Elkhorn, NE; a granddaughter, Erin and her husband, Aaron Lovitt; two great-granddaughters, Morrigan and Madelyn. Also surviving are her siblings, Lila Saxby, Darlene Radke, Shirley Larson, and Sherald Grauer, all of Cherokee, IA, Mary Ann (Bill) Rasmus of San Diego, CA, and Marjorie (Joe) Veale of Murrieta, CA; a sister-in-law, Wilma Grauer of Sanborn, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
