Frank Robert Escue

March 18, 1940 — October 7, 2017

Frank Robert Escue, the son of Ralph and Flora (Dewar) Escue, was born on March 18, 1940, on a farm in Cherokee County. He was raised a sharecropper on the Simonsen farm located in Rock Township. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1958. He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1956-1959. Following his graduation from high school, Frank attended the Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa. Thereafter, for the next approximately 55 years, Frank conducted auctions throughout northwest Iowa, holding more than 3,000 public auctions. He also volunteered for numerous charity and church benefit auctions. Frank married Marcia Artz of Marcus, Iowa, in 1961. Shortly thereafter, they purchased and moved onto the Simonsen farm in Rock Township. They began actively engaging in farming and raising their two boys, Duke and Jesse. Frank was very civic-minded, and was actively involved in numerous community organizations. Specifically, he was a founding member of the Cherokee County Rural Water Board, a member of the Cherokee County Soil Conservation Board, the Willow Community School Board, the Cherokee County Compensation Committee, and the Cherokee County Eminent Domain Committee. He was a valued member of the Cherokee County Fair Board, serving as President for several years, and was instrumental in the modernization of the Cherokee County Fairgrounds. He was also a longtime supporter of Pheasants Forever. During his last few years Frank was finally able to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a truck driver. First, he drove truck for Perrin's Fur Farm for a few years, and then, for the last three years, as a full-time semi truck driver for Bryan Lux of Lux Transportation, a job he enjoyed immensely, hauling grain throughout northwest and central Iowa. Following a brief illness, Frank passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert. Survivors include his sons, Duke of Crown Point, Indiana, and Jesse of Jeffersonville, New York, along with their mother, Marcia of Westside, Iowa; his siblings, Dorothy (Don) Royer of Cherokee, Ben (Elaine) Escue of Texas, and Dr. Faye (Dave) Smith of Kansas City. The family suggests memorials in Frank's name may be directed to Pheasants Forever, or a community organization of your choosing.
