September 6, 1952 — September 9, 2022

Gloria Ann Fortner, the daughter of James and Mary “Tiny” (Gordon) Gill, was born September 6, 1952, in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent on the farm west of Meriden, IA, where she attended school and graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1970. Gloria worked at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, IA, and then Sioux Valley Health in Sioux Falls for more than 20 years.

On April 6, 1990, she was united in marriage to Larry Fortner in Sioux Falls. They moved to Arizona in 1999, and she worked at Sanderson’s Ford. Gloria also enjoyed her “fun job” at State Farm Stadium where she assisted fans to there seat for the Arizona Cardinals games. She even got to attend a Super Bowl, several music concerts, and other activities while working there. Following Larry’s death on April 19, 2019, she moved back to Cherokee to be closer to family.

Gloria was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. She was active in many activities and loved helping people. She also would volunteer to assist anyway she could, often times not even knowing what she was volunteering for. She enjoyed golf, activities at the Wellness Center while making new friends, and traveling with her family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews.

On Friday, September 9, 2022, Gloria passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Fortner; parents, James and Tiny Gill; and sister, Georgia Gill.
