Gregory Kosse

September 6, 1922 — January 20, 2014

Gregory B. Kosse, the son of Bernard and Cecelia (Klunenberg) Kosse, was born on September 6, 1922, near Maryhill, Iowa. He attended the Maryhill School and helped his parents on the farm. He later worked for the telephone company and the elevator in Marcus. Gregory has made his home at the Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee for more than 40 years, where he made it his responsibility to change the daily calendar and activity board. He was an avid reader, especially interested in National Geographic. He was proud to be a member of the National Geographic Society. He collected the magazines and read them daily. One of his favorite issues contained a picture of a black rhino. A highlight for Gregory was a recent outing to the zoo to see the black rhino in person. He loved to socialize and share with people things he had read about. He was fascinated by the weather. He was very connected to his faith. Gregory also enjoyed outings to baseball games, the Spencer Fair and the Pumpkin Patch. He looked forward to time spent with the King's Korner Group at Plains Area Mental Health, going out for a Dairy Queen Blizzard, a foot-long, pop or pickled herring. His favorite song was 'Ghost Riders in the Sky'. He especially loved listening to the music of Cowboy Jim. Gregory passed away at home at Careage Hills on Monday, January 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alvina Gilbert and Angeline Treinen. He is survived by a brother, Alfred Kosse and his wife, Beverly of Marcus, Iowa, two sisters, Mildred Schmit of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Eleanor Thole of Ashton, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; a good friend and lunch companion, Robert Reuter, and the caring staff at Careage Hills.
