Helen Margaret Fish

Helen Margaret Fish, the daughter of Edward and Maude (Baldridge) Cobb was born on October 17, 1918, In Centralia, IL. Her childhood years were spent in Centralia where she received her education and graduated from High School. She attended two years of business school following graduation. On September 24, 1939, Helen was united in marriage to Kurvin C. Fish in St. Charles, MO. Following their marriage they lived in St. Louis, MO and later moved to Sandoval, IL where they owned and operated a restaurant, bus stop, and filling station. Helen helped with all aspects of the business and was known to bake 25 pies and three cakes every other day. When Kurvin was temporarily unable to work due to a health condition, Helen went to work as a bookkeeper for Hoffmann Clothing Company during the day and worked at the drive-in theatre at night. Over the next several years, Helen and her family lived in several different communities before moving to Ankeny, Iowa. In 1968, they formed Casey's General Stores with partner Don Lambertti. Helen later worked as a secretary for the Iowa Department of Agriculture until her retirement. Helen will be remembered as a hard worker. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and friend, who always enjoyed her time spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On July 26, 2016, Helen passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Maude Cobb; her husband, Kurvin Fish; one daughter, Barbara Stone; one son-in-law, Ed Rasch; one sister, Edna Ruth Cover; and one brother-in-law, Robert L. Cover. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Rasch of Cherokee, IA; six grandchildren: Margaret Wilson of Des Moines, IA, Martha (Peter) Kriek of Naples, FL, Dr. Sue Stone of St. Cloud, MN, Bob (Debbie) Stone of Oklahoma City, OK, Rick (Jauciqa) Stone of Moore, OK and Andy Stone of Orlando, FL; six great-grandchildren: Matthew Park, Barbara Park, Holly Stone, Matthew Wilson, Zachery Wilson, and Christian Wilson; a very special niece whom Helen considered to be just like a daughter, Judy (Dr. Steve) Kulb and their two daughters, Laura and Jenny of Evanston, IL; and other relatives and friends.
