Howard William Shear

September 19, 1951 — September 11, 2019

Howard William Shear was born September 19, 1951, the son of Randall W. and Harriett (Smith) Shear. He grew up near Akron, Iowa. Following high school, Howard went into the service, serving overseas as an Army Diesel Mechanic.

He was united in marriage to Debra Boettger on November 7, 1973. He graduated from WIT with a degree in Commercial and Hospital Maintenance. He worked for 20 years at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, Iowa as a Power Plant Engineer.  After then driving truck for many years, he returned to work as a Power Plant Engineer, this time at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. He retired in 2010.

Howard loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting or gardening. His favorite hobby was working with his irises on his acreage. He and Deb enjoyed taking drives and exploring the countryside.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Howard passed away at Mercy One Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, just a few days before his 68th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Judy VanDenBerg and Janice Terrill, a brother, Harold (Butch) Shear, and a nephew, Jon Marshall.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Deb, along with their children: Sheila (Garret) Reeves, Randall (Lauren) Shear, and Danielle (Shane) Clausen; grandchildren: Samantha (Chris) Gill, Summer Reeves, Sarah (Noah) Decious, Shelby Reeves, Sydney Reeves, Amber Feeney, Chloe Shear, Kaden Shear, Kasha Shear, Katharine  Claussen, and Megan Claussen; great-grandchildren: Kai’lia Reynolds and another soon-to-be great granddaughter; siblings, Jeanne (Vince) Morrow, Julie Marshall, Henry (Pat) Shear and Joyce Cihal; many other relatives and many friends.

SERVICES
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2019, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Oak Hill Cemtery
