Jack Leinbaugh

Jack Allen Leinbaugh, the son of James B. and Carrie (Hansen) Leinbaugh was born August 23, 1928, in Moville, IA. His childhood years were spent in Holstein, IA where he attended grade school and graduated from Holstein High School. He then attended the University of Iowa for a short period of time before he enlisted in the Army. Jack served in Korea for two years before his honorable discharge. Following his service, Jack moved to Cherokee where he worked at the Creamery. He later sold Metropolitan Insurance, worked at Walnut Grove, and most recently he worked for Wilson Foods. On July 26, 1974, Jack was united in marriage to Marilyn Carlson in Cherokee. Following their marriage they remained in Cherokee. Jack was an original North Star Community Credit board member, original Cherokee Sports Booster, and Cherokee County Supervisor. In his free time, Jack enjoyed being a high school football referee, spending time in Mesa, AZ, golfing, playing his hand held solitaire game, and having coffee with his friends. He was known as a handyman and loved to fix things. Most of all, Jack enjoyed being around his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On April 22, 2011, Jack passed away at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Carrie Leinbaugh; two brothers, Wyman and Lyle Leinbaugh; and one stepson, Scott Carlson. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Leinbaugh of Cherokee, IA; children: Jane (Jeff) Peters of Yuma, AZ, James (Patty) Leinbaugh of Spirit Lake, IA, Julie (Bob) Dickey of Bradgate, IA, Jeanie Leinbaugh of Phoenix, AZ, Steve (Carol) Carlson of Needham, MA, Diane (Gary) Chu of Racine, WI, Janel (Mark) Boever of Worthington, MN, and John (Susan) Leinbaugh of Plano, TX; 26 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Martha Hartman of Mt. Horeb, WI and Larry Leinbaugh of Omaha, NE; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday night at Greenwood Funeral Home.
