James "Jim" Allen Beck

James “Jim” Beck of Cherokee, IA passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday afternoon May 11, 2021, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

 Jim was born on February 17, 1938, at Ruthven, IA to John and Faye (Whitford) Beck. He graduated from Brooke High School in 1956. He was married to Shirley (Jones) Beck on February 17, 1960 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Aurelia, IA. They were married 61 years!

 After graduation, Jim worked at Lundell Manufacturing Company in Cherokee, IA for 20 years. He worked as a tool and die expert for several years. He was a perfectionist at his job! He then decided to join the Mental Health staff and work at the power house doing many tasks. He received a degree from Central College as a boiler operator. He worked at MHI for 23 years.

 Jim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Cherokee, IA, and was on the Alter Committee for several years and Finance Committee for many years. He was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan as well as NASCAR, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite.

 Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Faye Beck; sister-in-law, Lila Beck; and in-laws, John and Lucille Jones.

 He is survived by his wife, Shirley Beck of Cherokee, IA; son Al (Kim) Beck of Cherokee, IA; five grandchildren, Jordan Beck and fiancé Amberleigh Brown of Des Moines, IA, Jack Beck of Cherokee, IA, Dace Bruns of Spirit Lake, IA, Colton Trent of Atlanta, GA, and Wanda (Luke) Naslund of Alta, IA; three great-grandchildren, Micah, Lena, and Nellie Naslund of Alta, IA; brothers, Don Beck of Fort Dodge, IA, Roger (Beverly) Beck of Larrabee, IA, and sister, Jane (Roger) Stoner of Peterson, IA; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sherry) Jones of Spirit Lake, IA, Dean Jones of Cherokee, IA, Tom (Carla) Jones of Aurelia, IA, and Dave Jones of Cherokee, IA; sisters-in-law, Marie (Jerry) Jones of Cherokee, IA, Millie (Tim) Bruhn of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
