John Robert Pedersen

John Robert Pedersen, age 90 of Marcus, IA, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, IA. Father Timothy Pick will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus, IA. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Wednesday, following visitation at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. John Robert Pedersen, son of Carl and Hazel (Quirin) Pedersen was born on September 8, 1933, in LeMars, IA.  He spent his childhood years in Marcus, IA and graduated from Holy Name High School.  After graduation, John farmed with his father on the family farm.  He eventually went to work for Sands Seed Company for over 43 years driving a feed truck.

On September 4, 1956, John was united in marriage to Celine Krohn at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA.  They were blessed with five children, Mike, Barbara, Teresa, Jeff and chosen daughter, Meg.

John was an avid sports enthusiast.  He especially liked watching Miami Dolphins football and rooting for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He loved camping with his grandkids, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his family and beloved wife, Celine.  John was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church.  He had a great sense of humor and was one to never complain. 

On December 31, 2023, John passed away peacefully at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA after a short illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hazel Pedersen; brothers, Bill Pedersen, Paul Pedersen, Carl Richard Pedersen; sisters, Anna Marie Janousek and Betty LaFalce and son-in-law, Garry  Reavis.

John is remembered by his loving wife, Celine of Marcus, IA; children, Mike (Kim) Pedersen of Little Rock, IA, Barbara (Larry) Gosnell of Fort Worth, TX, Teresa (Don) Wiethorn of Fort Worth, TX, Jeff (Laura) Pedersen of Sioux City, IA, and Meg (Dale) Brady of Denver, IA; grandchildren, Joe, Matt, and Cody Pedersen, Andy Gosnell, Madysen Jay, Ryan Reavis, Nathan Reavis, Nicole DeLeon, Thomas Brophy, Becca White, Kory Brady and Keith Brady; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild on the way; and a special friend, Deb Carney Galles.
