Jolan Burns

Jolan Marie (Woolley Smith) Burns, 56, of Tucson, Arizona, passed into the hands of our Lord surrounded by her family on February 9, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Jolan was born in Schroeder, MN on May 24, 1957 to George and Ruth Woolley. Jolan spent her childhood in the Washta and Quimby, IA area; graduating from Willow High School in 1975. Jolan married Steven Smith on May 25, 1974; together they had 3 daughters, Lexie Smith-Raymond of Tucson, AZ; Nikki (Smith) Gibson of Killeen, TX; and Megan Smith of Williston, ND. She later married Brian Burns of Tucson, AZ on February 14, 2007. Jolan received her nursing degree from Iowa Central Community College in 1989, and in 2012 completed her BSN at Grand Canyon University. Jolan worked proudly as a nurse for the last 24 years specializing in OB nursing for several hospitals including St. Joseph's in Tucson, AZ where she was employed at the Perinatal Assessment Clinic. Jolan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, taking her grandchildren to the zoo, and having family meals at her home. Jolan is survived by her husband Brian: daughters Lexie (Walter), Nikki (Dustin) and Megan; father, George Woolley; siblings: Chuck (Julie), Charlene, Rick, and Marlene (Brad): grandchildren, David, Faith, Christopher, Evan and Zachery. Jolan is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth (Krause) Woolley. Memorial services for Jolan will be held Thursday, February 13 at 6:00 PM at HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME in TUCSON, AZ. A memorial and burial service will be held at a later date in Cherokee, IA with arrangements to be made by GREENWOOD FUNERAL HOME.
