Joseph 'Joe' Karl Beals

Joseph "Joe" Karl Beals, the son of Joseph and Buertess (Worman) Beals was born May 27, 1938, in Rock Island, IL. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High in 1956. After graduation Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country for 9 years in Greenland, Germany, and Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the United States. In 1965, Joe moved back to Cherokee, IA where he worked at Coast-to-Coast for five years. On April 24, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sandra McCabe at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Following their marriage, Joe worked with his family at Beals Motor Rewind until his retirement. Joe later went on to co-own Golf Etc. in Cherokee. Joe had a passion for volunteer work. He enjoyed his many years that he served on the Red Cross Board. He also was involved with Kiwanis where he served as Lt. Governor, the Cherokee flood committee, and he also served as a volunteer police reserve and EMT. Joe enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and working on various projects. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On March 4, 2017, Joe passed away at his residence following a lengthy illness at the age 78. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Beals, and two infant siblings, Sandy and Linda. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Sandi Beals of Cherokee, IA; three children: Linda (Jeff) Ducommun of Larrabee, IA, Karla (Brandon) Frehse of Everly, IA, and Joseph W. Beals and his wife Jamie Wilger of Urbana, IL; four grandchildren: Kyler and Kylah Ducommun, and William and Walker Frehse; mother, Bertie Beals of Cherokee, IA; one sister, Shirley (Randy) Kirchner of Quimby, IA; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
A public gathering and memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 8, 2016 at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday night with the family present during that time at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a short memorial service following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home.
MUSIC
INTERMENT
There will be a military service conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Wescott Park in Cherokee by the V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post 2253. The family requests that everyone meet at the park shortly before the start of the service.
