Joseph “Joe” Kohn, the son of Marvin and Martha (Nilles) Kohn, was born November 15, 1945, in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from I.C. High School in 1964. After high school, Joe worked at Perrin Fur Farm for a short time and then worked for Lubeck Oil in Cherokee for 44 years until its closing.
On November 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Judy Roggow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee and to this union two sons were born; Joel and Jason. Following her passing in 1971, he was united in marriage to Joyce Schweitzberger at the Immaculate Conception Catholic in Cherokee. They were blessed with five children.
Joe was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and bowling. He also liked playing golf, attending to his flower garden, watching and feeding birds, and woodworking. Joe also loved working on cars with Francis Heid at the racetrack. Most of all, Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
On Monday, November 25, 2019, Joe passed away at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy (Roggow) Kohn; one sister Cookie Simmons; and his parents, Marvin and Martha Kohn.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Kohn of Cherokee, IA; his children: Joel (Cindy) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Jason (Sara) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Jeff (Angie) Kohn of Ida Grove, IA, Aaron (Aimee) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Sherry Miller of Carlisle, IA, John and (Jodi) Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Gena (Jared) Leonard of Cherokee, IA; 17 grandchildren: Jacob, Adam, Kelsee, Tyler, Ryan, Katie, Nathanael, Carson, Jonathan, Lillian, Kaitlyn, Lydia, Alex, Cameron, Bailee, Chris, and Nick; three great-grandchildren, Brodie, Foster, and Huxley; siblings, Charles (Jill) Kohn of Thornton, CO, Connie (Gary) Olsen of Cherokee, IA, Judy (Ray) Gum of Sutherland, IA, Leo (Theresa) Kohn of Cherokee, IA; and Kathy (Jon) Miller of Cherokee, IA; brothers-in-law, Gary (Linda) Simmons of Cherokee, IA, Steve (Barb) Roggow of Marion, IA, and Dean (Deb) Roggow of Cedar Rapids, IA; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
