Kenneth W. Ward

Kenneth William Ward was born December 18, 1924 in Waynesburg, PA. He was the first of four sons born to Clyde and Helen (Hoy) Ward. Kenneth graduated from high school in 1942. He enlisted in the Army in June 1943 and served in New Guinea as a Medic until he was discharged in 1946.

 He received his B.A. degree from Waynesburg College in 1950. Kenneth was united in marriage to Anna Mae Kokako in McKeesport, PA. They had two daughters, Deborah and Melanie. Kenneth was employed by General Motors for 39 years until his retirement.

 Ken was active in the First Presbyterian Church in McKeesport. He sang in the choir and taught junior high Sunday school. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

On Monday, December 17, 2018, Ken passed away at his residence in Cherokee at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 60 years, Anna Mae; his daughter, Deborah and son-in-law, Ali Al Mattar; brother, Carl Ward; In-laws, Sam and Jean Kay, Bill Kokayko, George and Darlene  Kay, and Virginia Ward.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Tim and Melanie Rice of Cherokee, IA; his grandchildren, Jennah (Barrack) Al Mattar Egalila, Kuwait, Renimah Al Mattar of L.A. California, Deannah (Ahmad) Al-Rumeh of Miami, FL, Carissa (Jesse) Eret, Papillion, Nebraska, Joshua (Hope) Rice, Austin, Texas, and Jonathan Rice, Cherokee, IA; his great-grandchildren, Yousef, Reyannah, Joah Al Mattar, and Lucy, Amelie, Zoey, and Pennelope Eret; brothers, David Ward of Florida, Glenn (Marie) Ward of California; sisters-in-law, Betty Ward of Waynesburg, PA, Mary Ellen (Jack) Keppick of Virginia; and other extended family and friends.
SERVICES

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Oakhill Cemetery
Cherokee, Iowa

VFW L.A. Westcott Post#2253 and
the Cherokee American Legion
