Larry D. Wheeler

July 22, 1938 — November 26, 2009

Larry Wheeler, the son of Carl and Julia (Logue) Wheeler, was born July 22, 1938, in Knoxville, IA. At age three, his family moved to Aurelia and eventually to Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1957. Following graduation, he attended Mankato State College for two years and then attended Wayne State College. On June 12, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to Linda Stowater at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus. Larry worked at Schmidt Furniture Store and for the Illinois Central Railroad for a brief time before he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation where he served as a state inspector for over 30 years. In his free time Larry enjoyed reading WWI and Civil War books. He was a history buff that enjoyed researching trains. He also enjoyed hunting pheasant, deer, and ducks, but most of all he enjoyed spending time hunting with Nigel, his English Setter hunting companion. Larry had a wonderful sense of humor and loved being around his family and friends. On November 26, 2009, Larry passed away at Careage Hills in Cherokee, at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lucille Wheeler; and one sister, Sherri Wheeler. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Wheeler, of Cherokee, IA, two daughters: Ann Wheeler, of Cherokee, IA, and Kristin (Mike) Maves, of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Sara, Kate, and Matt Maves, of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Roberta (Bill) Hueser, of George, IA, one brother, Charlton (Delores) Wheeler, of Cherokee, IA; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
